engine cleaning done by a professional Bardahl mechanic

Keeping the inside of your engine clean is not something most Zimbabweans think about, but it can be done easily and affordably. In Zimbabwe, where the road conditions are rugged and dusty, keeping your engine and the internal components clean will help you save money on maintenance and replacements.

Poor vehicle maintenance greatly increases the chances of breakdowns, decreases vehicle lifespans, and reduces the total value of your car. Zimbabwean drivers incur more operating costs as a result of the difficult roads and a general lack of preventative maintenance. A clean engine is essential to a car’s longevity, performance, and efficiency, regardless of whether you drive a petrol or diesel vehicle.

The condition of your engine is really determined by what goes on within, even if external appearances receive the most attention. Luckily, Bardahl offers several engine cleaning products that restore performance and improve the longevity of your engines, transmissions and other components.

Engine cleaning products that focus on each part

Keeping an engine clean from the inside requires a balanced strategy that addresses several systems at once. The following Bardahl products are ideal for cleaning your vehicle engine and peripheral components from the inside:

1. Engine oil system and internals:

Bardahl Engine Flush – Sludge, varnish, and carbon deposits left by engine oil over time can impair lubrication and engine performance. Bardahl Engine Flush is a strong, concentrated cleaner made to remove these impurities from the internal walls of your engine, such as the piston rings, manifolds, and oil passages.

This additive is poured into your existing, warm engine oil before a scheduled oil change. As it moves through the engine, it breaks down stubborn deposits and keeps them suspended so that they drain out along with the old oil. This adds protective properties of your brand-new oil by ensuring that it begins its life in an entirely clean environment.

How to use it: Pour the whole contents of the 300ml container into the engine oil when the engine is warm and turned off, making sure it doesn’t exceed 10% of the sump capacity. After about fifteen minutes of driving normally or at idle, immediately drain the old oil and replace the oil filter. Both petrol and diesel engines can benefit from this product.

2. Combustion chamber and fuel system:

Bardahl 5-in-1 Diesel and Petrol Cleaners – Carbon deposits can reduce power, increase fuel consumption, and create harmful emissions, especially in those engines with complex fuel injection systems. The ultra-concentrated formula of the Bardahl 5-in-1 Cleaner is designed to remove deposits at every stage of the combustion cycle.

This potent additive preserves the combustion chamber and piston rings, cleans injectors and valves, and even cleans the air intake system, turbocharger, and catalytic converter. It guarantees ideal fuel atomisation and combustion by re-establishing injector flow and clearing carbon deposits to enhance performance, lower fuel consumption, and minimise exhaust emissions.

How to use it: Wait for your fuel light to come on, then pour the contents of one bottle into your fuel filler cap. Pour in another 20 litres of petrol or diesel and drive normally until the treated fuel is almost completely used up. You can then refuel normally. 5in1 Cleaner only needs to be used every 5000km or at every service.

Bardahl BDC (Bardahl Diesel Combustion) – This is a comprehensive preventive diesel treatment. It is useful in Zimbabwe where the quality of the diesel can fluctuate. BDC improves the cetane rate of diesel and cleans injector nozzles to increase fuel spraying.

It also lubricates and protects the injection system, and stops carbon deposits from forming on the valves. Additionally, it protects against oxidation and corrosion and repels condensate water, which stops bacteria from growing and damaging fuel pumps.

How to use it: Add 50ml of BDC to 50 litres of diesel for preventive maintenance (this is a 1:1000 ratio). Increase the dosage to 100ml of BDC per 100 litres of diesel during the winter.

3. Cooling systems:

Bardahl Radiator Oil Remover – A blown head gasket or other internal leaks can cause oil to enter the cooling system, which can seriously reduce cooling effectiveness and damage cooling components. This important problem is specifically addressed by Bardahl Radiator Oil Remover.

This substance emulsifies oil, enabling it to be completely removed from the radiator along with any organic deposits, gum, or sludge. It works with all coolants, antifreezes and radiator materials (plastic, metal) and may be installed in any kind of engine, whether it is diesel or petrol. Maintaining a clean cooling system ensures optimal circuit operation and guards against damage to gaskets and hoses.

How to use it: When the engine is cool and off, pour the contents into the radiator. Turn the heating to maximum, start the engine and let it idle until the radiator fan turns on. Run for a few minutes, then switch the engine off. Let the engine cool down before draining the radiator. Fill the radiator with new coolant.

4. General parts cleaning:

Bardahl Brake & Parts Cleaner – Although it isn’t an “internal” engine cleaner, this product is essential for routine maintenance and guaranteeing that vital parts operate at their best. This strong, quick-evaporating spray cleaner efficiently cleans brake parts, clutch discs, and other metal parts to remove dirt, oil, and brake fluid. It ensures a finish free of residue by cleaning without disassembling.

How to use it: Liberally spray the solution onto parts from a distance of 20 to 30cm. Wipe dry after letting the solution soak in and remove any impurities. Reapply the spray and let the sections air dry if there are any lingering remnants. Always keep overspray away from painted surfaces, rubber, and plastics.

5. Automatic transmissions:

Bardahl Automatic Transmission Flush – Automatic transmissions need clean fluid for seamless shifting and extended life. Deposits can accumulate over time, resulting in jerky shifts, which decrease the effectiveness of the gearbox and cause early wear.

Bardahl AT Flush cleans automatic gearboxes from the inside. Gum, varnish, sludge, and other deposits are all dissolved and suspended until the old gearbox fluid is drained. This guarantees optimal lubrication in the gearbox following cleaning. It can mix with any kind of AT fluid.

How to use it: Before a fluid change, add the flush to the automatic gearbox fluid. To circulate the cleaner, drive the vehicle for 15 or 20 minutes, then drain and replace with fresh AT oil.
