Why do we use fertiliser in the winter? It’s the perfect time to reintroduce nutrients into the soil after the summer rains and start building a foundation for a vibrant, lush lawn in the spring. While it may seem counterintuitive to apply fertiliser when the grass is more dormant, it actually allows you to build up vital nutrients that are easily accessible for the grass roots as they start to actively grow again in warmer weather.
This deliberate feeding results in a thicker, greener, and more resilient lawn by increasing the lawn’s resistance to disease and drought. With these spreaders, granular fertilisers may be applied evenly to lawns of all shapes and sizes. It makes it quick and easy to spread nutrients without the need to carry heavy bags or put in too much effort throwing the chemicals by hand. Two of our fert spreaders can be pushed like a trolley, and one can be attached to a ride-on mower.
Our range of fertiliser spreaders
For small lawns of up to 400 square metres, the GARDENA Spreader L is the best and most economical option. With its 12-litre capacity and 45cm spreading breadth, this hand-pushed spreader is very easy to use. It allows you to adjust the dosage for accurate application, which minimises wastage. The patented locking slide with a soft plastic lip also prevents accidental leakage. After use, simply spray the plastic tray with a hose.
The GARDENA Spreader XL is designed for lawns of up to 800 square metres. Its 18-litre capacity and wider spreading breadth let you cover more ground more efficiently. The spinning action of the disc dispenser flings the fertiliser up to six metres away. It also has an adjustible dose setting and a cover plate that allows you to spread along edges of verandahs, paths and walls.
For expansive lawns, you may need the Husqvarna Tow-Behind Spreader, which attaches to any Husqvarna ride-on mower or garden tractor. You can load up to 60kg of fertiliser into the bucket, which is attached to a steel axle and heat-treated steel wheels with large rubber tyres. This spreader also comes with a clear vinyl cover to keep chemicals dry and protect them from the wind.
